Sixième jour : Bristol

Sixième jour : Bristol

Up a little later today for a day in Bristol, the nearest town to Weston. Each day the distance covered in the coach diminishes. Here we visited the Sailing Ship Great Britain, designed by one of the geniuses of the industrial revolution, the Franco-British engineer Isambard Kingdom Brunel (his real name). Brunel is responsible for the earliest iro

4ème Jour : Pays de Galles

An early start on Monday for a day in Wales. About an hour and three quarters in the coach past Bristol and across the border into the wastelands of Wales. We began with a visit to the Big Pit, where the group put on miner's hats and equipment and went down into a former mine, now a museum. The tour is led by former miners.and was moving and instru
First day : Canterbury and Rye

First day : Canterbury and Rye

Second day : Brighton

Second day : Brighton

1er Jour : Winchester

1er Jour : Winchester

We left Valenciennes bright and early. Some of the children slept, most were too excited. Ferry and full English breakfast then coach to Winchester to admire King Arthur's Round Table in the Great Hall. The table dates from the 13th century, but the painting of Arthur and his knights was added in the Tudor period : note the Tudor red and white rose
Seventh day : Weston super Mare

Seventh day : Weston super Mare

The last day in Weston, the traditional paperchase/treasure hunt in teams. Relaxed day, we never plan visits as such on the last day. From experience the group is less receptive. For the treasure hunt teamwork was importent to get the answers quickly. Some groups managed better than others.... The teams were announced in the park by the bandstand.
8ème Jour : Retour via Windsor

8ème Jour : Retour via Windsor

Last day in England. We said goodbye to the families. For most children they will remember a very warm welcome, going beyond just food and a bed in most cases, one of the main reasons we keep coming back here. Where else would a family drive back home in the morning to collect a wheel chair for a student on hearing that someone (not their student)
3ème Jour : journée en famille

3ème Jour : journée en famille

A day in Weston with the families - we've decided to post pictures of your children with their hosts taken at the car park after our return from Bath. They will tell us all about the day on Monday. The idea is to be with an English family and do whatever they normally do at the weekend, from outings to relaxing at home, whatever is on the menu. Bon
5ème Jour : Oxford

5ème Jour : Oxford

Fifth day ... the days are going by so fast it is hard to believe that we are soon coming to the end of the trip. Today another early start and a longish drive to Oxford and its university, the oldest in England (we say, Cambridge will tell you a different story). First lecture of the morning - a visit to Christchurch, the largest if not the oldest
2ème Jour : Glastonbury et Bath

2ème Jour : Glastonbury et Bath

We left Weston under sunny skies, we've been lucky with the weather so far, even if rain is forecast for the middle of the week. Glastonbury, sleepy village about 30 miles from our base camp, a village which wakes up in a big way to a major rock festival every year AND more to our pedagogical point was the most important monastastic domain in Engla
